morning to lauren demarco with a check of on-time traffic and our roads. >> good morning. we are seeing some fog in areas as we've been reporting. a live look out there. if you are traveling 270 making the trip southbound, starting to see the volume heading from 109 down towards 21. nothing in your way as far as accidents or incidents. once you you get past father hurley, nice, easy trip down towards the beltway. just watch for stretches of fog as you head out there. traveling the beltway, no issues to report here. outer loop heading past new hampshire avenue. you are looking great at this time. i do want to mention, in the district, here we are traveling across the key bridge into georgetown but in southeast d.c., wade water main break, 15th street at east capital and metrobus service may be experiencing some delays in both direction because of that. same story in arlington, south courthouse road between columbia pike and sixth street closed in both directions that caused the road to buck ming.

that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. -timetraffic. -- that caused the road to buckling. we'll have the latest on the movie shootings in just a moment. first, a wave of attacks in a rack. >> a wave of bombings has killed 82 people. this were car bombings and shootings in several cities. a few days ago, al-qaeda in iraq warned it was reorganizing in areas where u.s. troops had forced them out. and we are just learning that three american contractors were shot and killed in afghanistan on sunday. they were training afghan police when a gunman wearing an afghan police uniform opened fire in western afghanistan. the country is banding together with the community in aurora, colorado to mourn the death of 12 victims killed in freeway's movie theater massacre. >> yesterday, president obama met with the victims' families trying to come those suffering

from the overwhelming loss. >> even if the darkest of days, life continues, and people are strong and people bounce back and people are resilient. >> 58 people were also hurt during the mass shooting. twenty-four of those people are still in the hospital. the. >> the suspect accused of opening fire during the midnight showing of the new bat monday movie is getting ready to appear in court. sherry ly has the latest on the tragedy. >> reporter: that suspect will be in court today for an arraignment. police say that james holmes has now lawyered up and is now longer cooperating. he could face the death penalty. holmes is being held in solitary confinement. he is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 5 # others in the movie theater massacre friday. hundreds of people gathered for a prayer vigil in you're ore a colorado to remember the victims.

those killed ranged in age from six years old to 51. police say that holmes was covered head to toe in body armor and was armed with an assault rifle, shotgun and handgun when he opened fire on the crowded theater over the weekend. aurora's mayor remind the community of the strength and resolve to get through this tragedy. >> we will remember you. we will honor you by celebrating life. we will honor you by living our lives a little better. >> it is not this senseless act of violence that marks us as a community. it is the lives and acts of these heroes and the innumerable acts of kindness, love and care for our neighbors that defines who we are. >> reporter: yesterday, police cleared the suspect's booby trapped apartment which was filled with ammunition, explosives and hazardous chemicals. sources say investigators also found a bat map mask.

the university of colorado is now looking into whether holmes was able to get some of the hazardous materials through the medical campus where he had been working on a ph.d. police say it could take months now to determine a motive. holmes had apparently tried to join a denver area gun range last month but his encounter with that range owner was owe disturbing, he rejected his application. presumptive republican presidential nominee mitt romney spoke out about the shooting saying president obama's decision to meet with victims' families was, quote, the right thing. romney held a fund raiser in san francisco choosing to steer clear of verbal attacks on president obama. ident obama. coming up in about three hours, the ncaa is announcing penalties against penn state for the way it handled suspicions of child sex abuse by former assistant coach jerry sandusky. now, it is not expected to give penn state the so high pressure called death penalty which

would be a complete suspension of the football program for at least a year but it could include significant sanctions. the punishment follows a report that stop school officials including coach joe paterno did not do enough to stop the abuse. coming up next be a look at the morning's other top stories. a father of seven murdered at his business near nats park. this morning, police are asking for help in tracking down a suspect. more trouble for d.c. mayor vincent gray t centers once again on his 2010 campaign and this time the accusations surround alleged unauthorized access of information that is supposed to be private. we're coming back in just a moment. ♪ ♪ ♪

near as a cab repair shop on q street. when the man came out, he pulled a large knife and demanded money. dennis gave him the $20 in his pocket and tried to walk away and police say that is what he was stabbed twice. the victim leaves behind seven children between the ages of four and 20. d.c. mayor vincent gray's 2010 campaign under the microscope once again. a list helped campaign workers target a list of voters leading up to the 2010 primary. mayor gray has denied knowing about the database. montgomery county police or the hunt for a suspect accused of stabbing a man and stealing his car. it happened around 2:30 this morning on frederick road in germantown. police believe the suspect and the victim know each other. they say the two got into some sort of verballality are

new this morning, we have an update on a deadly accident in southern texas. the drive of a pickup truck loaded with takes drove off a road and hit two trees. this was about 100 miles southeast of san antonio. at least 11 people were killed. the border patrol has now joined the investigation and officers are looking into whether the victims are illegal immigrants. in cheap arc the heaviest

see we do have some fog out there. the inner and outer loops running pretty well between springfield and 66 at this time. but other e volume northbound than that, you should be in pretty good shape and 395 looks good. we do have delays reported northbound through aquia harbor as well. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. -timetraffic. an international conference on aids and hiv is under way in washington right now. yesterday on the national mall, there was a large rally to remind the world of the continuing impact of the crisis. now, the memorial aids quilt was laid out honoring those who lost their lives to the disease. when the aids quilt first went on display in 1987, there were fewer than 2,000 panels. now, there are so many, it is too large to be displayed all at once. while the event was a stark

morning's business beat. >> good morning. >> what are we watching for today? >> 1% decline across the board on friday. we are looking for more of the same this morning. this were up for the week last week but that is ancient history for some investors out there. we'll be look for some corporate reports from mcdonald's and hasbro before the hoping bell to get an update on where they stand and more importantly, are higher food costs going to affect mcdonald's. texas instruments after the close later this week. we've got apple tomorrow and facebook's first report as a public company. that is coming up later on this week as well. but concerns in europe right now weighing heavily on the stock futures. >> also, hollywood is kind of holding back on the box office numbers for the weekend out of respect for the colorado shooting victims. but we're hearing some estimates man for the big movie. >> yeah, it is highly unusual move. they want to get the numbers out. the studios who are behind whoever the frontrunner is each

excused killing a dozen people during the midnight showing a batman movie gets ready to appear in court. sherry ly has the latest. >> reporter: james holmes is due in court for an arraignment. he is being held without bonn and is in solitary confinement. police say it could take months to determine a motive. he is expected to be charged with first degree murder in the movie theater massacre that killed 12 people. he could face the death penalty. the tragedy brought the community in aurora, colorado together over the weekend. police say that homehuntertv.com ms was covered head to toe in body armor and had a semiautomatic rifle, handgun and shotgun on him when he opened fire in the crowded theater. the university of colorado is also checking to see whether holmes was able to get hazardous materials used to booby trap his apartment through the medical campus. he had been enrolled there seek a ph.d. until last month. president obama met with the victims' families to come them and let them know that the nation mourns with them. >> although the perpetrator of this evil act has received a

lot of attention over the last couple of days, that attention will fade away and in the end, after he has felt the full force of our justice system, what will be remembered are the good people who were impacted by this tragedy. >> reporter: of 59 # wounded, 4 remain in the hospital -- of the 58 wounded, 24 remain in the hospital. the possible archbishops will be laid out today and holmes will be asked if he understand them. district attorney has not said jet whether he would seek the death penalty. >> thank you. police continue collecting evidence and trying to figure out the motive behind last week's massacre. a community is in mourning over the tragic event. >> over the weekend, hundreds of people gathered for a vigil in honor of the victim. adam housley has more now.

later this morning. just as the school removes joe paterno's statue outside the football stadium. workers took it down yesterday as about 100 students watched even though it was blocked by a blue tarp. the sanctions will be announced at a live press conference by the ncaa executives at 9:00 this morning. we wilcoverage including commentary and analysis. a look at the morning's other top stories, d.c. police are on the hunt for the person accused of fatally stabbing a shop manager near nationals park. 06-year-old haze dennis was killed during a robby near his cab repair shop on q street. police say he led a man into the shop so he could get some water. when the man came back out, he pulled a large knife and demanded money. dennis gave him the $20 in his pocket and tried to walk away from the whole thing. police say that is when he was stabbed twice. the victim leaves behind seven children between the ages of

four and 20. more allegations between waged against d.c. mayor vincent gray's campaign. it is reported that he kept a database of 6,000 residents and it could be a violation of keeping the database for political purposes. a commuter alert in montgomery county. right-on bus system will object a modified holiday schedule today and tomorrow. last week, another ride-on bus caught fire and it was at least the seventh fire in the last three years involving buses made by champion international. the system has been ordered to take all champion buses out of service. coming up next, a look at this morning's other headlines including you should probably check your refrigerator because there is a ground beef recall linked to illnesses in seven states including right here in our area. also ahead, questions surrounding the whereabouts of michael jackson's mother. katherine jackson's family says she is safe but police say he

a food poisoning outbreak at a rescue mission in denver b40 people had to be treated at a local hospital. investigators say they all got sick after eating turkey donate to the center last night. emergency workers are worried that there could be even more victims out there. as many as 200 people ate that turkey dinner, then left and went back tonight streets. a major beef recall to tell you about this morning. cargill meat sliewxs is recalling more than 29,000 pounds of ground beef. there are concerns it is contaminated with salmonella. this comes after reports of salmonella or suspected salmonella in seven states including virginia. cargill beef was sold wholesale and repack anded under several different brand names the

government is working to track down exactly where that meat was sold. there is more information on myfoxdc.com. michael jackson's mother isn't missing after all. the king of pop's brother jermaine tweeted that his mother is safe and resting on doctor's ad in arizona. #-year-old katherine jack-o- lantern son was reported migging by a family member on saturday. even michael jackson's daughter paris tweeted about more missing grandmother. says say they do not have details on her exact whereabouts show. forget about the soft are side of sears. the store showed off its wild side at a pennsylvania mall over the weekend. here is why. take a look at this. a bear cub somehow managed to wander into the sears at pittsburgh mills on saturday. the store was open at the time and the sighting sent customers scrambling. the mall was evacuated while wildlife officers tranquilized the bear. >> he came right up by her foot
